Orthodontics

& Lumoral® Treatment

Bacteria in dental biofilm cause 95% of the oral diseases. Lumoral® is a light-activated antibacterial solution for oral health and biofilm management, for the patient's use at home. Lumoral has been clinically proven in randomised trials to treat and prevent oral diseases.

Challenges in Orthodontics

Orthodontics, such as braces or clear aligners, are hard to clean due to their complex structure and the wires, brackets, or aligner attachments that can provide a favorable environment for bacterial growth, making plaque control challenging.

As a result, residual plaque can build up, leading to potential problems like tooth decay, bad breath, gingivitis, even an onset of periodontal disease. Maintaining good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing, is essential to prevent the accumulation of plaque and maintain healthy teeth and gums while undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Successful plaque control with Lumoral®

Antibacterial treatment during orthodontic treatment can reduce the risk of infection and inflammation caused by bacteria. This is particularly important for patients who wear orthodontic appliances such as braces, which can create areas where bacteria can accumulate and grow.

Lumoral antibacterial treatment eliminates plaque from the tooth structure and around the orthodontic device, maintaining oral health and preventing the development of dental problems.

The treatment targets the tooth surface and gum line without affecting the normal bacterial balance in the mouth. Successful plaque control promotes a healthier and more comfortable orthodontic treatment experience.

Lumoral Treatment

Risk and evidence-based treatment recommendation

Preventive use

Frequency of use: 2 times a week

Control Every: 12 months

✓ Mild gingivitis
✓ Prevention of bacterial dental diseases
✓ Moderate risk for caries
✓ Moderate tartar formation
✓ Bad breath

Periodontitis treatment: patients with stable treatment results and without additional risk factors.

Therapeutic use

Frequency of use: Once a day

Control Every: 3 months

✓ High caries risk
✓ Moderate gingivitis
✓ Severe tartar formation
✓ Periodontitis stage 1-2
✓ aMMP-8 above 20 ng / ml

Periodontitis treatment: patients with additional risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, cardio-vascular disease or smoking, long-term therapy is recommended.

Intensive use

Frequency of use: Twice a day for 4 weeks

Control Every: 1 months

Severe gingivitis
Periodontitis stage 3-4
aMMP-8 significantly elevated

With intensive therapy, the light activation can be increased to up to 30 minutes for every Lumorinse dose. (Longer treatment time increases the antibacterial effect).
